    I would agree with this suggestion with a few alterations.

    Next current trip displayed first on homescreen with a drop down of all trips in chronological order, past trips have their own category and placed at the bottom of the drop down. A + button on the main screen to add a new trip with context menu with choices eg Tripit, New, Duplicate. The ability to edit trip name.
